Bushy Leaze Family Support – Helping local families

Welcome to Bushy Leaze Family Support website. We are a charity supporting the Family Support Team at Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre in Alton, East Hants. We were set up to fill the gap in public funding when the Sure Start facility at the Centre stopped in 2016 as part of a county-wide closure. We knew how important it was that the Centre continue to provide vital services and outreach to families in Alton and the surrounding area and the local community agreed. Their support led to the creation of our charity and the continuation of the services.

The work of the Family Centre has never been so essential. Relationship breakdown, bereavement, disabilities, financial hardship and mental health issues can make life very difficult for families with young children.

The Centre offers targeted help to people facing multiple and complex challenges and can make a real difference.

When funding was cut there was a real threat that the Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre would have to stop offering parenting support. This would have had a huge impact on the families with young children in the area, so we set up the charity to raise funds to keep the service going. Our charity enables the Centre to continue to provide life-changing services to local families with young children, particularly those at higher risk. The charity was formed by a group of passionate volunteers dedicated to ensuring these services could continue.

Please help us keep this essential service operating by donating to Bushy Leaze Family Support.

What the parents say

“My child has grown in confidence and has started making lots of progress with her words. The things she loves most is group time, this is something she really looks forward to.”

“Parenting Puzzle has helped me massively become a less angry parent.”

“I struggled with my mental health when I first had my baby and joined the baby massage
group which helped me gain confidence to get out of the house and cope with my baby
in a group setting. From this I then joined the baby and me group and have enjoyed peer
support but also the leaders always make me feel like I have support and help if I need it if
it’s a tricky day or I have parenting questions.

I really like the hand/footprint scrap book I’m making to help us make a lovely memory.”

“Bushy Leaze have helped me and my children in many ways. All my three children have gone there and they have been fantastic with each of them & also very supportive towards me”

“You are all amazing! Without you, families would lose vital support that each of you provide. I have personally used a lot of your services which have meant I have gotten a lot of support as I struggle with my mental health. This groups are a lifeline, especially as I cannot afford paid groups.”

“The baby and toddler groups are an incredible resource for mums for support network and
mental health benefits.”

“Parenting Puzzle has helped me realise how important it is for self care for me to be the best for my children.”

“I also attended a parenting course last year, which was really beneficial to me and my family. I learnt so much there and have learnt to cope with difficult situations that we may be having at home.”

“Bushy Leaze is a fantastic resource and has really helped to build relationships with both the
baby and other dads.”

“Everyone who I have interacted with who works there is very friendly and easy to talk to.
The classes have been a lifeline for my daughter and her needs. She has attended various
groups, one of them being speech and language. This has been a huge help for her
communication, being nonverbal, she has learnt to communicate in other ways. She is thoroughly supported by the staff and enjoys the activities in the groups and facilities
available.”
